Top 5 reasons your car isn’t going to sell on facebook marketplace

With spring around the corner here in Northeast Ohio, many car enthusiasts will be listing their rides to sell on Facebook Marketplace. When you’re selling your car on Facebook marketplace, the photos and listing presentation will make or break your likelihood to attract serious buyers and have a quick sell. Here are the top five mistakes to avoid when photographing your car.

  1. Taking photos in poor lighting.

Lighting is everything in photography. Many sellers take photos at night, in harsh midday sunlight, or in dimly lit garages, making the car look unappealing. The best time to photograph your car is during the golden hour—shortly after sunrise or before sunset—when the light is soft and flattering.

2. Not Cleaning the Car

A dirty car in photos suggests that the car is neglected, which can turn off potential buyers. Before taking pictures, wash the exterior, vacuum the interior, and remove clutter. A clean car looks more valuable and well-maintained.

3. Taking Too Few Photos

Buyers want to see every angle of the car before deciding to reach out. Many sellers only upload a couple of images, leaving buyers with questions. Use all 20 photos that Facebook allows to cover all angles: front, back, sides, interior, engine bay, and key features. These photos are meant to get the potential buyer in the door and send you a DM. Keep in mind that even though the posting will only allow for 20 photos, you should have more on hand just in case the buyer wants to see the underside of the car or something else that wasn’t photographed in the listing photos.

4. DISTRACTING BACKGROUNDs

A messy or cluttered background can take attention away from your car. Avoid parking in front of other vehicles, busy streets, or distracting objects. Instead, choose a neutral or scenic location, such as an empty parking lot or a clean driveway.

5. Not Highlighting Important Details

Some sellers forget to capture key selling points, such as low mileage, modifications, or recent repairs. If your car has leather seats, a sunroof, or a premium sound system, make sure to showcase them in your photos. This goes for the text that you use for the description as well. Don’t skimp out and only put, “Ran great last before storing, I know what I got. Serious buyers only”.
